Thinking

by the window
a single red rose
in ceramic vase
rising over fern leaves
suspending time
singing with authority
a plea for me to sing
unadultered
provincial
irrepressible
alone
inwardly rapt
reaching
instinctually wailing
the body
a woman
and sudden delight:
all conversations stopped
all industries frozen
love commits its grip
to that it encircles
awe prevails
and the genius of the heart
removes its veil
in these salient rose petals
