Those trees not so far off

Those trees not so far off
deny death with their green light
full and plump in an empty platz

A child in wool cap races to the fountain
where no water springs up
bordered by columns of black trunks

Ignorant of tomorrow’s task
the fair chance that upon the empty bench
he may sit

An old man without heirs
contemplating still
just how green the leaves remain
