Dream of a girl on the metro

she tucked her pant legs into cuffs
tenderly, with knit sweater unzipped
maternal look towards her shoes
took her time
adjusting her pant legs
to the same length—
seated across her with a map
the metro making great noise
like the Polish phrases
rumbling their way up my neck
I got up, but
she moved first, and to my
surprise smelled of marigolds
lining the paths of Krasinski gardens
she pointed her naked arms
keeping silver hoops afloat
painted nails marking a route
I vaguely dreamed about
uttering street names like the sea
shh-chh-shh-chh-sh—
a dreamer and now
awake!
