Both coming and going

I am leaving, my love
through a windshield mist
denying the words less traveled

I am going, my love
alone and away
thoughts bickering above the gravel

Why do I go, to beg the unknown
the frost’s awakening crackle

Why do I stay, to beg your delay
a bedspread to cover my ankles

I am heading, my love
through storm and decay
on heels of galloping phantoms

I am dumbfounded, my love
to meet the deep black
your eyes melt again my wisdom
